A party platformer where up to four players collaboratively (and deviously) build a level round by round, then race through the chaos they just created. Best with friends, worst alone.

Ultimate Chicken Horse is a 2D party platformer built around one delightfully cruel idea: every round, all players pick an item from a Party Box and place it on the level, then everyone has to survive whatever nightmare the group just assembled together. Spikes, sawblades, wrecking balls, spring pads, arrow launchers - the toolkit is deep, and the levels escalate from "manageable obstacle course" to "pure screaming chaos" faster than you'd expect. You score points by finishing a run that your opponents fail, so the sweet spot is placing something just hard enough to eliminate them but still doable for you. That razor-thin calculation is where all the fun lives. There are four modes to pull from in the Treehouse lobby: Party Mode (the classic random Party Box format), Creative Mode (same structure but you pick freely from the full inventory, so you can be precisely evil instead of randomly evil), Challenge Mode (solo or co-op speed runs on community-uploaded levels with full leaderboards), and Free Play (build and upload your own levels with no competition attached). Party Mode is the one you'll spend ninety percent of your time in. The scoring rewards skill without punishing newcomers too harshly early on, and the built-in Score Balancer handicap system means you can actually level the field when one player is clearly lapping the rest of the couch. For the "is it fun for four drunk friends" test: yes, this might be one of the cleanest passes I've seen. Controls are simple - run, jump, wall-jump, slide, dance to taunt - so nobody needs a tutorial, and early rounds are forgiving enough that a first-timer won't feel lost. The game supports local split-screen for up to four players, online lobbies with private codes, and even cross-platform play. If you only have one controller and one keyboard between four people, Shared Controller mode on the red couch in the Treehouse lets you pass input around in turns, which is genuinely clever for a late-night pickup session. Steam Remote Play also works if your squad is online, letting friends join without owning a copy. The honest downsides: this game fades fast without company. The Challenge Mode offers something to do solo, but playing community speed-run levels on your own strips out the whole engine that makes UCH tick - the psychological back-and-forth, the table talk, the groaning when someone puts a boxing glove three pixels from the finish line. The menu navigation is a bit clunky, and some reviewers have noted that the four modes don't feel dramatically different from each other once the novelty wears off. Skill gaps can also surface in tight groups - if one player has fifty hours of wall-jump muscle memory and everyone else is new, the rounds can get lopsided. The Score Balancer helps, but it requires people to actually use it. On PC the system requirements are low, so you won't need a gaming rig to run it smoothly. Any controller works fine; this isn't a game that demands a wheel, a HOTAS, or anything exotic - grab four gamepads and you're golden. With over 14,000 Steam reviews sitting at 96% positive and an OpenCritic average in the Strong range, community reception has been warm and steady since 2016 and hasn't cooled much. If your Friday nights involve couch gaming or a Discord call with friends, this earns its spot in the rotation without question. Riley, Scout Team
