I went into Watch Dogs: Legion expecting a slick open-world hacker game with a gimmick, and I came out surprised by how much that gimmick actually works when it clicks. The core pitch is that DedSec has no fixed protagonist. Instead, you recruit ordinary Londoners off the street, each carrying their own skills, backstories, and quirks, and you build a ragtag resistance out of whoever you can convince to join up. A futuristic beekeeper commanding robotic hornets. A former MI6 spy with a weapon-jamming watch. A construction worker who can call in cargo drones and literally fly over restricted zones. On paper it sounds like a marketing bullet point. In practice it turns every mission approach into a small puzzle about who you bring and why. The hacking side of things sits at the center of everything. London's ctOS infrastructure, cameras, phones, drones, and networked machines, can all be manipulated to complete objectives without ever firing a shot. Chain enough camera hacks together and you can ghost through an entire enemy compound. The stealth here is genuinely satisfying when it lands, and the freedom to swap between aggressive and non-lethal operatives depending on your mood gives the game a ludonarrative flexibility that most open-world titles don't bother with. Combat and driving are the strongest they've been in the series, and the city itself is a remarkably faithful recreation of London that rewards players who know their way around the real place. That said, the rough edges are real. Enemy AI can be boneheaded, some special abilities that should feel unique get undermined by the game handing similar tools to everyone anyway. Voice acting recycles a small pool of samples across the randomly generated cast, which quietly chips away at the illusion of a truly living city. Mission structure grows repetitive over a long playthrough, and the open world starts to feel samey once you've seen its neighborhoods cycle through the same activities. These are not dealbreakers, but they are consistent friction points. Where the Ultimate Edition earns its label is the season pass content stacked on top. The Bloodline expansion brings back Aiden Pearce and Wrench from Watch Dogs 2 in a separate story set before the main game, with Aiden navigating a hostile London caught between a military robotics corporation and an old DedSec contact. It plays closer to a traditional single-character story, which honestly suits the setting well. On top of that, four additional playable operatives join your roster: Aiden, Wrench, Darcy (an Assassin's Creed crossover character Ubisoft insists is non-canon, which somehow makes her more fun), and Mina, a transhuman experiment with mind-control abilities. Three exclusive DedSec missions and access to the original Watch Dogs Complete Edition round out the package. The whole thing is best suited to players who enjoy systemic sandbox games, people who like poking at open worlds sideways rather than sprinting through the main quest. If you need a strong, consistent protagonist to stay engaged, the base game will lose you. But if you're the type who spends twenty minutes scanning pedestrians to find the perfect operative for a Buckingham Palace infiltration, you'll find a lot to enjoy here. Permadeath mode, which makes operative deaths permanent, adds real stakes to that roster-building if you want the tension cranked up. The Ultimate Edition is the complete experience, no gaps, and for a game that rewards thoroughness, that matters.
