Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni
Stripped-down brawling with genuine aerial depth: if you can tolerate relentless fan service, there is a surprisingly competent hack-and-slash underneath.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Best for Senran Kagura fans who want tighter aerial mechanics and can tune out aggressive fan service without flinching.

My first few hours with Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni made one thing abundantly clear: Marvelous is not trying to hide what this game is. The fan service is front, centre, and absolutely non-negotiable. If that is a hard stop for you, nothing else in this review matters. For everyone still reading, though, there is a legitimate brawler buried here that deserves more credit than the marketing spectacle around it tends to attract. The core combat hook is the Liberator-Extar pairing system. You always pick two characters before a mission, but you only control one. Your partner, the Extar, literally transforms into your weapon once you fill the Synchro Gauge enough to trigger Drive. That transformation unlocks harder-hitting combos, extended attack chains, and special moves, and the Drive tiers escalate as you level characters up, so there is always a carrot on the stick. Each of the seven playable girls brings a distinct fighting style and weapon type, ranging from sword-and-shield builds to ranged bows and rollerblade-lance hybrids, which keeps the roster from feeling interchangeable. The aerial "Phantom" mechanics add another layer: launch a foe, hold the jump input until your feet glow, then chain Phantom Strikes, Phantom Dances, or Phantom Falls depending on what the situation calls for. When it clicks, the juggle combos feel genuinely satisfying. A well-timed dodge also triggers a brief slowdown window, rewarding players who learn enemy rhythms rather than just mashing. Content-wise the package is reasonable. Story Mode runs around 28 missions and locks you into specific character pairings for narrative reasons on a first playthrough, then opens up once cleared. Survival, Challenge, and Training modes round things out, and the online suite includes Strip Battle, Liberation Battle, and a platform-fighter-style Melee Battle mode for up to four players. Between missions, the cafeteria functions as a relationship-building hub, and there is a lingerie shop with over 100 unlockable sets spent via Bhikkhuni Points earned in combat. The dressing room exists. You know what it does. The weaknesses are real and worth naming. Enemy variety is thin, the AI outside of boss fights is largely passive, and the mission structure repeats the same arena layouts often enough that fatigue sets in around the mid-game. The story has interesting character beats buried under stretches of slow dialogue. A late-game difficulty spike catches players off-guard in a way that feels more like a design gap than a satisfying challenge curve. The PC port itself is solid, supporting high resolutions with no frame cap, and a controller is strongly recommended since keyboard controls are awkward. Launch had some freeze bugs at load screens, most of which were patched, but it is worth checking current community notes if you are sensitive to technical issues. The Steam review score sits at 84 percent positive across over a thousand reviews, which tracks. Fans of Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus will feel immediately at home, and anyone who can engage with the absurdity on its own terms will find a brawler that does more mechanically than its reputation suggests. Go in knowing exactly what you are paying for.
