Three distinct Legendary Lords, one massive free update, and a Slaanesh campaign that builds Pleasure Palaces and spends Decadence like a war economy. Tides of Torment is the strongest argument yet for staying in the Immortal Empires sandbox.

I have a spreadsheet tracking every Legendary Lord I have run to the late game in Total War: WARHAMMER III, and Tides of Torment added three more columns to it fast. This DLC drops alongside Update 7.0, which means you are not just buying new lords - you are buying into a meaningfully retooled game. Norsca received overdue attention, Slaanesh mechanics were deepened, and the free Masque of Slaanesh lord arrived for everyone regardless of purchase. That bundled approach, where paid content and a sweeping free patch ship together, is the healthiest release model this franchise has used. The three new Legendary Lords each pull the campaign in different directions. Dechala, The Denied One, is the standout for players who want aggression with a resource loop attached. She constructs Pleasure Palaces to recruit units and generate Decadence, then burns that Decadence through Tormentor's Tributes to stack buffs or apply debuffs to opponents. It is a short feedback cycle that rewards expansion early and punishes turtling. Sayl the Faithless leans into magic, diplomacy, and vassalization, and his starting position gives newer players room to breathe while his systems scale in satisfying directions. Aisilinn of the High Elves is the mechanically dense one - his play is built around buffs and cooperation with other Legendary Lords, which makes him less intuitive until his systems click, but ultimately rewarding for players willing to sit with the complexity. The honest criticism is that Tides of Torment is not a roster-wide overhaul. Veteran players who own every prior DLC will notice the content bundle feels lean in unit count compared to something like Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs. Post-launch bug reports around mission objectives are a known issue, and the broader community still has a running wish list of factions waiting for meaningful reworks. If you are chasing a ground-up reimagining of High Elves or a complete Norsca rebuild, this is a step toward that conversation, not the conclusion of it. For newcomers to the trilogy, the standard caveat applies here even harder: Tides of Torment is a DLC for a game that already expects you to understand province management, army replenishment cycles, confederation timing, and the autoresolve risk calculator in your head. The good news is that Dechala and Sayl are among the more accessible entry points the game has produced. Their economies reward aggression over careful infrastructure planning, which means you do not need a perfect building chain to feel effective. Start with either of them, accept that the first campaign is a tutorial in disguise, and the depth that looks overwhelming on day one becomes the reason you are still playing in month three.
