I went in expecting pure nostalgia bait, but ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron is legitimately fun on its own terms. You're navigating cartoon-bright levels as either of two aliens, using grab-and-throw mechanics to deal with enemies and solve light puzzles. The grab system is tactile and satisfying, the level design bounces between straightforward platforming and goofy set pieces, and the soundtrack leans hard into the funk aesthetic without ever winking at the camera. There's no pretense here. The game knows it's weird and doesn't apologize. Local co-op is the real draw if you've got a friend willing to mess around with it. Solo play works fine but loses some charm. The graphics haven't aged gracefully and some sections drag, but if you want a platformer that feels like it came from a specific, unhinged creative vision rather than a focus group, this scratches that itch.
