Sword of the Vagrant is a 2D action-platformer that leans hard into fighting game mechanics mixed with platforming gauntlets. The combat system is where it shines, combo-driven, responsive, and rewarding enough to make you chase high scores on individual stages. The problem is everything else feels underscrubbed. Level design is functional but uninspired, checkpoint pacing can be punishing, and the overall presentation screams budget indie rather than polished product. It's not a bad game if you go in knowing what you're getting. Fighting game enthusiasts who tolerate rough platformer segments will find something worth their time. Everyone else should expect a niche title that does one thing competently and the rest acceptably. Fun in bursts, but don't expect it to compete with the bigger indie action titles.
