Fatal Fury's iconic cap-and-vest brawler lands in Smash with 50 tracks of SNK gold, a wall-breaking stage, and one of the most mechanically layered movesets in the entire roster.

I'll be straight with you: I came into Challenger Pack 4 knowing Terry Bogard mostly by reputation, not by the hundreds of arcade hours some SNK lifers have logged. What pulled me in wasn't nostalgia - it was the sheer density of what's packed into a single DLC fighter slot. Terry is Fighter #74 in Smash Ultimate, and he's the first and only representative of SNK in the game. That's a lot of history riding on one guy in a red cap, and Sakurai clearly felt the weight of it. On the fighting side, Terry plays closer to a traditional 2D fighter than almost anyone else on the roster. Like Ryu and Ken before him, he always faces his opponent in one-on-one bouts, and his special moves - Power Wave, Burning Knuckle, Crack Shoot, Rising Kick - can be performed using their original arcade command inputs for boosted power and speed. Simplified Smash inputs still work fine, so casual players aren't locked out, but the skill ceiling is real. His tilts and aerials can be cancelled directly into specials, his Dash Attack is the shoulder-rush Power Charge, and his spot dodge has a built-in counter attack window that most players won't discover until they've already put in a few hours. The biggest twist is the "GO!" meter: once Terry's damage climbs past 100%, he unlocks super special moves - Power Geyser and Buster Wolf - that hit like a freight train but punish whiffs hard. It's a comeback mechanic that keeps you in every game and makes matches at high percent genuinely nerve-wracking for both players. The included King of Fighters Stadium stage deserves its own paragraph. The left and right sides of the arena are walled off, so weaker hits bounce opponents back into the ring. The only ways to score a KO are blasting someone out the top or dealing enough damage to shatter the wall outright. That single rule change makes the stage feel nothing like a standard Smash flat-zone - matches turn tense fast, and the jumbotron in the background showing live action while 20 SNK character cameos (Andy Bogard, Geese Howard, Iori Yagami, Kyo Kusanagi, and more) cycle through the background is pure fan service done right. The stage's design is simple enough that it plays well in both casual four-player chaos and serious one-on-one sets. The music situation is almost absurd: 50 tracks spanning Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Art of Fighting, Psycho Soldier, Ikari Warriors, and more from SNK's back catalogue. For a single Challenger Pack, that's a bigger library than entire series like Pokemon or Zelda received. Even if Terry himself doesn't click with you as a main, the music alone justifies loading up that stage in rotation. His weaknesses are real and worth knowing - recovery is exploitable, he struggles in the air, and he can be combo'd heavily when caught off-guard, so he rewards patient ground game over reckless aggression. The tier community has him solidly in B+ territory, which translates to: viable, fun, not oppressive. Riley, Scout Team
