If your Switch has gathered dust since the last family gathering, Jamboree is the reason to charge it up. Seven boards, 110-plus minigames, and a 20-player online mode that actually changes the formula.

I went into Jamboree half-expecting another safe Nintendo rehash, and came out having watched two hours vanish in what felt like a single round. That is the essential tension of this game: it is generous almost to a fault, and that generosity has a cost. Released October 2024 for Nintendo Switch, Jamboree is developed by Nintendo Cube and lands as the third Mario Party on the platform, carrying forward the bones of Mario Party Superstars while piling on enough new content to feel genuinely fresh. The headline numbers hold up in practice. Seven boards cover both new designs and two returning classics, Western Land and Mario's Rainbow Castle, each with their own mechanical quirks. Goomba Lagoon's tide mechanic can maroon you mid-route for a couple of turns, while Rainbow Castle lets you set traps with fake stars for whoever wanders your way. The 22-character roster includes newcomers Pauline and Ninji, and each has their own turn-start jingle, which is a tiny touch that players will notice more than they expect. The minigame count sits at over 110, split across the main board rotation plus dedicated item, duel, and special-mode pools. The modes are where Jamboree stretches the formula. Koopathlon drops up to 20 players into an online competition where minigame scores translate into board movement, making it feel closer to a competitive leaderboard event than a traditional party. Bowser Kaboom Squad flips the script entirely into an eight-player online co-op push against an oversized Bowser. Motion-focused modes like Rhythm Kitchen, Paratroopa Flight School, and Toad's Item Factory revive the waggle energy of Wii-era party games, for better or worse depending on your living room setup. For the more serious crowd, Pro Rules strips out chance spaces, locks in bonus star conditions at the start, and lets skill drive the outcome rather than a last-turn coin swap from a lucky CPU Waluigi. The real complaint sitting underneath the praise is time. A ten-turn game in standard rules runs around 90 minutes once Buddy system interactions, item phases, duels, and random events all stack up per turn. That was not always the case with older entries in the series, and households with younger players or limited sessions will feel it. The content-unlock system also leans heavily on the main account holder winning, which means players sharing a console on a couch get uneven rewards for equal effort. Online play has reported lag and framerate hiccups, particularly in international matches, which is a consistent note across multiple reviews. Single-player offerings like Party Planner Trek exist, but solo play is never where this game comes alive. At its best, Jamboree is the easiest sell in the current Switch library for a group of two to four people in the same room. The chaos is calibrated well, the minigame variety is wide enough that weak entries rarely repeat, and the presentation has a brightness to it that keeps even losing players from sulking too hard. Solo or online-only, the value proposition shrinks. But put it in front of a couch full of people who can tolerate a two-hour board session, and it delivers precisely what that room needs. Veredicto de GamerScout

Best for groups of 2-4 in the same room willing to sink 90-minute sessions; solo and online-only players get a thinner deal.
