Shuyan Saga
Over 1,400 hand-drawn panels by a DC and Dark Horse veteran artist, voiced by Kristin Kreuk, propping up combat that was clearly born on a touchscreen. Worth it? Almost, and that 'almost' is more interesting than it sounds.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Best for visual novel fans drawn to Wuxia art and story who can forgive combat that never quite matches its motion-capture ambitions.

Acerca de Shuyan Saga
I have a soft spot for projects that bet everything on a single artistic vision, and Shuyan Saga is very much that kind of bet. The artwork alone justifies serious attention: over 1,400 panels illustrated by Daxiong, a comic artist whose resume includes Star Wars and Justice League work, all rendered in a style that feels like ink-wash painting learned to move. Pair that with an original soundtrack from composer Aaron Tsang that genuinely earns its ancient-China mood, and the graphic novel portions of this game sit among the most handsome visual novel content on PC. Kristin Kreuk voices Shuyan herself, and while the script occasionally tips into Wuxia cliche, she brings enough warmth that the character earns your loyalty across the three-episode structure. The story follows Shuyan, princess of Nan Feng, as she trains in Kung Fu to resist the conquering warlord Ganbaatar and protect the Five Kingdoms. Each of the three episodes covers roughly a third of that arc, alternating between interactive comic panels where dialogue choices nudge the narrative, and active combat segments that drop you into either one-on-one Focus fights or top-down Arena encounters against waves of enemies. The Focus duels use light and heavy attacks, timed dodges, and combo strings built from over 300 motion-captured techniques from Shifu Longfei Yang, a master of Shanxi Praying Mantis style. On paper, that pedigree is extraordinary. In practice, timing feels just slightly off, as if the animations were tuned for a touchscreen swipe rather than a mouse click or controller input. The combat is functional and occasionally satisfying once you internalize the rhythm, but it never achieves the fluidity the source material deserves. The two bonus modes, unlocked after finishing the main story, add some texture without fully solving the replayability problem. Tournament Mode offers 1v1 fights to climb a ranking ladder. Jade's Temple Adventure swaps the princess for a supporting character navigating puzzles and fights through an area briefly referenced in the main plot. Neither is deep enough to hold you for long, and the combat's baseline jankiness follows both of them faithfully. If you come in wanting a satisfying beat-em-up, the game will disappoint you. If you come in wanting a Wuxia graphic novel that occasionally asks you to throw punches between chapters, and you are patient with controls that clearly had a different platform in mind originally, the experience holds together better than its rougher edges suggest. The narrative side genuinely earns the Steam community's warmth. Choices matter in modest but meaningful ways, the supporting cast has distinct personalities, and the pacing through those three books feels considered rather than padded. The soundtrack in particular does heavy lifting during the quieter comic sequences, threading erhu-inflected themes under each chapter shift in a way that I kept noticing and appreciating. There are two endings, and the story does enough with its mythology that reaching either one feels earned rather than arbitrary. Shuyan Saga is not a smooth production. It launched from mobile roots that the PC version never fully shed, and the gap between its visual ambition and its combat execution is genuinely frustrating for anyone who wanted both halves to be great. But as an interactive graphic novel where the comic craftsmanship is the main event and the fighting is an intermission, it has a specific, sincere beauty that I found hard to dismiss.
