A sim-racing package from 2007 that still earns its keep: tight WTCC touring car physics, a massive roster of real cars and tracks, and a Formula RaceRoom add-on that throws a screaming open-wheel monster into the mix.

I'll be honest with you: booting up RACE 07 in 2026 takes a conscious choice to look past dated visuals and lean into what the game actually does well, which is sim-quality racing physics wrapped in an accessible difficulty slider. SimBin built this on the ISImotor engine, and the handling model still holds up in ways that genuinely surprise. Tire wear bleeds into the rear of the car under hard cornering, weight transfers feel honest through a wheel, and switching off traction control or antilock brakes on the pro damage setting turns every chicane into a negotiation rather than a formality. The car and track roster is the real headline. RACE 07 packs in the full 2007 FIA WTCC season alongside the 2006 grid, covering touring cars like the BMW 320si WTCC and Vauxhall Vectra VXR, plus a spread of support classes including Formula 3000, Formula BMW, and the Radical SR3 and SR4 sportscars. That is more than 300 cars across nine classes, which gives you genuine variety without buying a single add-on. The Formula RaceRoom expansion then bundles in the RR1 formula car, described at launch as the fastest SimBin had ever put in a game, alongside three layout variations of the Hockenheimring. Jumping from a front-wheel-drive touring car to that open-wheeler is a gear-shift in difficulty that most sim fans will find satisfying. The AI holds its own better than period competitors managed. Opponents weave, jockey for position, and recover from mistakes in ways that feel reactive rather than scripted. On harder settings the CPU is legitimately tough, and the game never resorts to rubber-banding to fake competition. That said, crash physics are where the realism falls apart: big impacts feel more like billiard balls than metal on metal, and the spectator models in the grandstands are flat 2D cutouts that betray the age of the engine instantly. IGN at the time noted the game was unlikely to pull in casual racers, and that verdict has only become more true with age. Input support is broad: keyboard works, gamepads are fine, but a racing wheel is where the physics model stops feeling like a game and starts feeling like a sport. The in-helmet camera view, with its limited sightlines and cockpit bounce, is particularly good at selling the sensation of speed. Multiplayer is still listed and occasionally active among the sim-racing community, though you will not find packed lobbies. Single-player championships and custom race weekends carry the bulk of the experience without issue. Who is this for? Sim-racing fans who want authentic WTCC content with a physics model that rewards commitment, or anyone building out a SimBin library through the expanded ecosystem of expansions. Casual players who want to drift a supercar through a city street will bounce off this fast. Everyone else gets a dense, honest racing package that critics scored 83 on Metacritic and that Steam players still rate Very Positive more than a decade and a half later. The age shows in every polygon, but the physics department did not get the memo. Alex, Scout Team

Veredicto de GamerScout

Best for dedicated sim-racing fans who want licensed WTCC content with honest physics and can forgive a graphics engine that belongs in a museum.
