On The Road - Truck Simulator
If Euro Truck Simulator 2 is the gold standard you keep comparing everything to, On The Road will frustrate you. But for low-stakes trucking through Germany with real licensed MAN and Scania rigs, it scratches a specific itch without demanding much in return.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Worth it for genre newcomers wanting calm German highway drives - ETS2 veterans will feel the content gaps within the first few hours.

Acerca de On The Road - Truck Simulator
I went into On The Road expecting a rough-around-the-edges Euro Truck Simulator alternative, and that is more or less exactly what I got. Developed by Toxtronyx and published under the Aerosoft banner, this is a Germany-only truck sim set across a scaled 1:10 road network that covers around 6,000 km of motorway and 600 km of country roads. You haul cargo through 15-plus cities including Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, and Hanover, threading real-world motorway interchanges and sitting through day-night cycles driven by actual satellite terrain data. If that pitch sounds appealing, keep reading. If it sounds thin, it probably is for you. The vehicle roster is small but meaningfully licensed. You get the MAN TGX (2016) and Scania R Series (2013), each available in semi-trailer 4x2, box 4x2, and box 6x2 configurations. Trailers range from standard box semi-trailers to tandems, bolsters, and the impressively unwieldy Gigaliner dolly-plus-semi-trailer combo. The trucks themselves handle with reasonable authenticity - automatic transmissions, retarder and intarder systems, and driver card mechanics are all modeled. Jackknifing a Gigaliner on a tight city ramp because you came in too hot is a legitimate risk, and that kind of consequence keeps the driving loop honest. Steam Workshop support lets you repaint trucks and trailers, which is a small but appreciated touch for anyone who likes a tidy livery. Where things get complicated is the economic layer. There is a company management system - you found your own operation, hire drivers, purchase extra trucks and trailers, and plan combined routes with rest time requirements. On paper that is a solid loop. In practice, the menus and logistics interface feel clunky and under-developed compared to SCS Software's offerings, and the overall breadth of the gameplay loop exposes just how narrow the content base is. Two truck brands covering all of Germany is a workable starting point, not a complete package, and the visual presentation sits firmly in the budget tier. The PC version also carries a Steam review score that sits right at the 50 percent mark, which tells its own story - players who wanted a relaxing sim got one, players who wanted Euro Truck Simulator depth got burned. So who actually benefits here? If you are new to the genre, want something calm and low-commitment, and find the European highway atmosphere genuinely soothing, On The Road delivers a functional and stable enough experience for that purpose. The terrain, the weather changes, the day-night rhythm - those elements do their job. The game does not collapse under its own ambition because it keeps ambition carefully contained. Veterans coming from ETS2 will spot the gaps immediately and likely bounce off within a few hours. Treat it as a lighter, narrower take on the genre rather than a competitor to the market leaders, and expectations align with reality a lot better.
