New Yankee: Through the History Mirror

I went in expecting a strategy game based on the tags, and what I found instead is a casual adventure romp where John and Mary bounce between historical periods solving simple puzzles and fetch quests. The parallel-timeline mechanic has potential but stays surface-level: you're mostly matching objects, unlocking areas, and hitting achievement checkboxes rather than making any meaningful decisions. If you're hunting for a relaxing, low-stakes puzzle game with a time-travel coat of paint, the premise delivers that fine. Where it stumbles is scope. There's no real build variety, no strategic layer, and no reason to replay once you've cleared the campaign. The tutorial is friendly enough for newcomers, but the depth ceiling arrives fast. Consider this a palette cleanser between heavier games, not a strategy investment. It knows what it is, a bite-sized indie adventure, and commits to that lane without pretense.
