This is the fourth consecutive year that Visual Concepts has shipped PC players an old-gen build, and the gap this time around is particularly painful because the headline feature they spent all summer promoting is completely absent on this platform. ProPLAY is the big deal on current-gen consoles. It pulls real NBA footage and translates it directly into player animations, meaning Steph Curry's shot release and Ja Morant's dribble drives actually look like theirs in-game. PC players get none of that. No ProPLAY, no crossplay with PS5 or Series X users, and MyCareer's larger open-world City gets swapped out for the older, smaller Neighborhood. As one critic put it plainly, it is unacceptable that a fully capable platform ends up with an incomplete product sold at a nearly identical price. What you do get, stripped of the generational upgrades, is a functional basketball simulation with MyCareer, MyTeam, and MyNBA all present. The on-court feel for dribbling and defense has some fluid moments, and if you are coming back after skipping a few years of 2K releases, the core game can still entertain. MyNBA (the franchise-style mode) is probably the cleanest way to spend time here without constantly running into a progression wall. MyCareer and MyTeam are a different story: Virtual Currency touches everything meaningful, and grinding VC to a competitive level without spending real money requires a time investment that borders on a second job. Pick-up sessions with friends in local co-op work fine, and the couch multiplayer is stable enough for a Saturday night, but the limited cross-play support means your online matchmaking pool is confined to other PC players. The honest verdict for PC specifically is this: the base basketball is playable, the modes are numerous, and casual players who just want to run a franchise or play quick exhibition games will find something here. But anyone expecting the full 2024 experience they saw in trailers is going to feel cheated. Madden fixed its PC port this same year. The 2K community noticed, and they are loudly unhappy about it. If you own a PS5 or Series X, that is the version worth your money. If PC is your only option, wait for a steep discount and go in knowing exactly what generation of game you are actually getting.
