What works here is quality over quantity. NetherRealm puts genuine effort into guest character integration. These aren't reskins with a Hollywood face pasted on. Each fighter feels mechanically distinct, with their own special moves, amplified attacks, and combo routes that slot into MK11's Custom Variation system. If you've been grinding out ranked matches or Towers of Time, adding even one new character restarts the lab grind in the best possible way. That's honestly where most of the value sits for dedicated players. Where the pack shows its limits is context. As a standalone purchase this makes zero sense without the base game, and the characters arrive without story mode content of any real substance. You get arcade ladder endings, which are fun but short. Players hoping for deep lore integration per fighter will be leaning on the base game's cinematic story, which this pack does not extend in a meaningful way. It also follows MK11's broader monetization structure, which layered a lot of cosmetic grind into the base experience. The Kombat Pack adds fighters, not a shortcut through any of that. For who this is actually for: if you've logged real hours in MK11's competitive modes or co-op couch sessions and you've hit a wall of familiarity with the base roster, this pack is a clean injection of fresh matchup knowledge to learn. Guest character mains in particular tend to be memorable at local and online play alike because the move recognition is genuinely different. If you're a casual player who finished the story once and drifts in occasionally, the extra fighters will get some mileage but probably won't shift how much you play. Bottom line: the Kombat Pack does what DLC character packs are supposed to do. It adds mechanically interesting fighters with appropriate production value. It doesn't fix anything about MK11 you might already find frustrating, and it isn't trying to.
