Stunning skies, rocky runway: the Premium Deluxe Edition packs 90-plus aircraft and 160 handcrafted airports into a sim that soars when its servers cooperate and frustrates when they don't.

I went in expecting the cleanest, most feature-complete version of the world's most ambitious flight simulator, and what I got was closer to a high-potential work-in-progress that occasionally takes your breath away and occasionally drops you back to a loading screen. The Premium Deluxe Edition builds on the Standard package with 25 additional aircraft and 10 extra handcrafted international airports, bringing the total airport count to around 160 meticulously modelled destinations, weighted toward the large, long-haul hubs that suit the bigger iron included at this tier, like the Boeing 787-10 and the outlandishly large 747 Dreamlifter. The core loop has genuinely expanded since 2020. Career mode is the headliner, letting you work your way up through certifications and aviation disciplines, from aerial firefighting and search-and-rescue ops to medevac and eventually airline passenger transport. It is structured like a career RPG, reputation and experience gating your access to progressively more demanding roles. The problem, flagged consistently by the community, is that the grind is steep enough to wall off the most interesting mission types for a long time. There is also the Challenge League mode for those who want competitive time trials, precision landings, rally racing, and low-altitude runs against other pilots, which is a sharper, more immediately rewarding use of a spare hour than plowing through the career tree. The visual and simulation technology underneath all of this is genuinely remarkable. An updated photometric lighting system, new cloud types, auroras, real-time weather phenomena, and enhanced physics running across more than 10,000 rigid-body surfaces per aircraft make even a short hop across a familiar coastline feel worth the time. Aircraft systems have been deepened too, with modelled electrical, pneumatic, fuel, and hydraulic systems, proper preflight walkaround checks, and avionics suites that include real-world units like the Honeywell Primus Epic 2. Serious sim pilots will find more to study and master here than in 2020. The persistent complaints, though, are real and worth knowing before you commit at the Premium Deluxe price point. The game is online-only, streaming the majority of its world data from the cloud, meaning any wobble in your connection translates directly into missing scenery, slow package activation, or a hard disconnect from your session. Launch reception was rough enough to land a Mixed rating on Steam at 59% positive across tens of thousands of reviews, and reports of stuttering and long load times on capable hardware have not fully gone away. If you came from 2020 expecting a clean generational leap, the blurry lines between the two releases will test your patience. The Premium Deluxe tier makes the most sense for players who already know they want depth: more aircraft variety across more carefully crafted airports is a real argument for the upgrade if you plan to put serious hours into career progression or specific aircraft types. Casual visitors who just want to buzz their hometown would be fine with Standard. Come in with realistic expectations about online dependency and a grind-heavy career structure, and the moments when everything clicks, a dawn approach into a hand-built international terminal in convincing atmospheric haze, will remind you why no other game is even attempting this scale. Best for dedicated sim pilots who can tolerate online dependency and a slow career grind in exchange for unmatched scale and aircraft variety.
