Jason Todd brings guns, electric hammers, and throwing stars to Injustice 2 - a genuinely distinct playstyle that rewards players willing to learn the mid-range setup game.

I went into this expecting a gimmick character bolted onto a roster that didn't need one. What I got instead was one of the more mechanically interesting additions to Injustice 2's fighter lineup. Red Hood, played as Jason Todd, operates in a zone between rushdown and keepaway that most fighting game DLC characters never bother to explore. He fires long-range projectiles to control space, then punishes opponents who close the gap with close-quarters gunplay activated through his character power. It's a push-pull rhythm that takes real time to internalize, and that's a genuine compliment. The toolbox is legitimately weird and fun. His pistols can transform into electric hammers mid-combo, and he carries throwing stars alongside his guns, making the transition from screen-filling pressure to in-your-face Hammer Slam feel organic once you get the muscle memory down. The character power toggle - switching between firearm mode and the taser-spiked hammer stance - gives him a flexibility that casual players will enjoy poking around with and competitive players can abuse in layered setups. Critics at launch noted that while the fighting style is interesting, Red Hood felt somewhat toned down compared to his brutal comic book persona. That friction is real: the moveset is creative but not overwhelming, and players expecting a glass-cannon powerhouse may find him more methodical than expected. Fighter Pack 1 grouped him with Sub-Zero and Starfire, and of the three, Red Hood arguably has the highest skill ceiling even if Sub-Zero has the more immediately satisfying special moves. On Steam, the handful of user reviews that exist land around 93% positive - a small sample, but consistent with the general community reception that praised his uniqueness while acknowledging he was not an instant-win pick. He's classified as a Gadget user in-game, and that framing tracks: he's the character for players who like managing options rather than executing one dominant gameplan. The honest caveat here is that this is DLC, which means you need the base game, and Injustice 2 at this point in its lifecycle is a known quantity. If you're already invested in the roster, Red Hood adds something genuinely different. If you're on the fence about the base game, start there first. He works in single-player Multiverse events as well as online PvP, and the controller support is solid throughout. He's not the flashiest character in the roster, but he's one of the more rewarding ones to put real time into. Alex, Scout Team

Worth picking up if you already own Injustice 2 and want a methodical, setup-heavy fighter that rewards practice over button-mashing.
