I went in expecting a retro pastiche, but Hyper Fighters is the real deal: a rail shooter that respects the arcade formula without irony. Fourteen stages, one or two players, mountains of enemies, and a scoring system that actually matters. You can't steer, only aim and fire, which forces you to memorize patterns and react faster than feels fair. The game looks basic and sounds tinny, but that's intentional, it's chasing that genuine early-90s arcade cabinet feel, not a polished tribute band. This is not for everyone. If you want a campaign with story beats or progressive unlocks, move on. If you're chasing that specific high-score dopamine hit, or you want to prove you've still got arcade reflexes, Hyper Fighters delivers exactly what it promises: fourteen stages of pure mechanical challenge, brutal difficulty curves, and zero hand-holding. It's lean, focused, and honest about what it is.
