I went into Halo 5 expecting the tight arena shooter the franchise is known for, and I got that in spades. The campaign pushes the sci-fi story forward with two playable Spartan perspectives and some genuinely inventive set pieces. Multiplayer is where 343 spent the real effort: arena modes feel sharp, map design rewards positioning over spray-and-pray, and the progression system keeps pulling you back. Forge mode is impressively deep if you care about building custom maps. The trade-off is that campaign story beats can feel thin compared to earlier entries, and the live service model means some cosmetics and progression have aged poorly. If you're hunting for solo narrative depth, the Halo trilogy still holds up better. But if you want a pure competitive shooter that respects your aim and teamwork, Halo 5 delivers.
