I've spent enough time in GTA Online sessions to know that the biggest question around GTA V Enhanced has nothing to do with ray tracing. It's this: are my friends on it? Because here's the thing Rockstar buried in the small print - Legacy and Enhanced players cannot share the same Online sessions. The March 2025 PC update didn't just add a visual tier, it carved the PC community into two separate pools that cannot cross. If your crew hasn't all agreed on which version to run, coordination matters more than frame rates right now. On the actual upgrade itself: it's legitimately impressive if your rig can handle it. Full ray tracing for reflections, global illumination, and ambient occlusion brings Los Santos closer to photorealistic than it's ever looked on PC. DLSS 3 and FSR 3 support means you don't have to own a top-end GPU to see the gains, and DirectStorage cuts load times in a way that makes returning to Online sessions feel noticeably snappier. DualSense Adaptive Trigger support is a small but fun touch for wheel and controller players - rough road surfaces and weather effects feed back through the triggers in a way that gives cruising around the map a new texture. The 3D audio overhaul, including Dolby Atmos support, is underrated for headphone users. What's missing, frustratingly, is HDR support, which in 2025 feels like a genuine oversight on Rockstar's part. For GTA Online specifically, Enhanced brings exclusive content that Legacy users can't touch: Hao's Special Works auto shop for HSW Performance Upgrades, a handful of exclusive vehicles, and the ability to subscribe to GTA+. If tuner racing and high-spec car builds are your thing, that content is genuinely new. The catch is that the migration from Legacy to Enhanced is a one-way door - your character progress transfers, but your Legacy profile and Enhanced profile then run independently going forward. Think carefully before you click confirm, especially if the friends you actually play with haven't made the jump. The story mode is still exactly the story mode. Trevor, Michael, and Franklin do their thing in a world that now catches light beautifully off rain-slicked tarmac. For newcomers it holds up better than most open-world games from the same era, though the on-foot movement has that old clunky inertia that no amount of ray tracing patches. Legacy players who already burned through the heist missions and the single-player campaign years ago won't find anything structurally new here. The upgrade's value proposition lives almost entirely in how good it looks and how committed you are to GTA Online's long-running content loop. Bottom line for the Saturday night crowd: if you and your whole group are starting fresh or all willing to migrate together, Enhanced is the version to be on. If even one person in your lobby is staying Legacy - maybe because their GPU can't meet the higher system requirements, or they just don't want the hassle - you're either playing split sessions or someone compromises. That's a frustrating reality for a free upgrade that should have been an uncomplicated win.
