Gears of War: Reloaded
Nearly 20 years of Locust-killing, now crisper than ever - but the mixed Steam score tells you exactly what the catch is before you spend a cent.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Best for newcomers to the series and lapsed fans on PC who want the definitive-looking version and a healthy cross-play multiplayer pool.

Acerca de Gears of War: Reloaded
My first hour with Gears of War: Reloaded was genuinely impressive on a technical level. The cover-shooting loop that helped define third-person action in 2006 still has a satisfying rhythm to it: snap to chest-high walls, pop out, land an Active Reload on the Lancer, chainsaw something in half. The Coalition has rebuilt the visuals from the ground up - 4K textures, overhauled lighting, improved shadows and reflections, and a noticeably more vivid color palette compared to the original's famously grey-brown palette. On PC you get an uncapped framerate and ultrawide support, which is a meaningful step up from the 2015 Ultimate Edition. Zero in-campaign loading screens also makes the five-act structure feel tighter than it ever has. If you have not played the original and own a capable monitor, this is legitimately the best the game has ever looked. The multiplayer side of things is more interesting than it might seem on paper. All 19 maps return with the visual treatment, and the classic PvP modes - Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Assassination - are all present. Full cross-platform play and cross-progression across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 (a franchise first) means the player pool should stay healthier than a single-platform remaster typically would. All characters and cosmetics unlock through progression with no microtransaction store, which is the right call and worth noting. The two-player online co-op campaign works well, and the whole thing runs at 120fps in multiplayer on compatible hardware. Here is where the Steam score becomes worth understanding. The negative reviews cluster around two specific issues. First, mandatory and persistent Microsoft account sign-in - even for solo play - and reported cases of server disruptions locking players out of a single-player campaign. That is a genuine friction point for anyone who just wants to boot up and play offline. Second, and more damaging to community trust: split-screen co-op was shown in pre-launch trailers, was part of why some players pre-ordered, and quietly disappeared at launch. The trailer was later edited to remove the reference. The Coalition has not reversed course on this, and the frustration in Steam reviews is proportional to the promise that was made. Neither issue touches the core game itself, but they matter if you are buying primarily for local co-op or if you have a spotty internet connection. The honest question for returning players is whether this is worth revisiting after the 2015 Ultimate Edition. Reviewers are split: critics sit around 81 on OpenCritic, with praise going to the visual work and the cross-play infrastructure, while pushback centers on the lack of new content and the sense that this is a remaster of a remaster rather than a reimagining. The campaign shows its age in enemy AI behavior and in the linearity of its level design - corridors that felt cinematic in 2006 feel narrow now. But the core gunplay, the weight of the roadie run, the satisfying snap of cover transitions - none of that has deteriorated. For newcomers, especially those coming from PS5 with no prior access to the series, this is a clean entry point to a franchise that has a major new chapter, Gears of War: E-Day, in development.
