Frostpunk: The Last Autumn
A prequel scenario that reframes everything you thought you knew about Frostpunk's world, but it will punish overconfident veterans harder than the base game ever did.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Essential for Frostpunk veterans who want a harder, more spatially demanding test of the same systems, skip it if you haven't finished the base game.

Acerca de Frostpunk: The Last Autumn
I spent more time than I'd like to admit staring at my build layout in The Last Autumn, trying to figure out why my generator construction had stalled three hours in. Turns out I'd placed a worker barracks two tiles too wide and locked myself out of a crane pad I desperately needed. That kind of spatial trap, unforgiving, quiet, and entirely self-inflicted, is exactly what this expansion is built around, and it is more ruthless about it than Frostpunk's original campaign ever was. The setup is a prequel. You play as the Overseer of Site 113, tasked with assembling the massive generator that fans of the base game will recognize as the centerpiece of their survival. The cold is not here yet. That shift in atmosphere is immediately noticeable: the colour palette swaps Frostpunk's bleak whites and blues for autumnal browns and oranges, giving the whole thing a grimly ironic warmth. You are building the machine that will (maybe) save civilization, on a deadline of 45 in-game days, before the frost arrives to erase everything you know. The stakes are not abstract. The hope meter from the base game is replaced here by a worker motivation bar. Let motivation drop and productivity craters by thirty percent; keep it high and you get a thirty-percent boost, though sustaining that ceiling long-term is effectively impossible. This one mechanic ripples through every decision. New laws, a reworked research tree, a dedicated generator construction tab in the workshop, and harbor buildings that let you import food and resources from the mainland all feed into a system that feels genuinely different from the base game without abandoning what made it work. Space management is the real boss here, the buildable area is tight by design, and a misplaced structure early can lock you into an unwinnable state hours later. Veteran players will need to relearn their habits, and the expansion does not soften that lesson. That said, the criticism leveled at The Last Autumn, that it does not do enough differently to justify the price, is not baseless. If you have burned out on Frostpunk's core loop, the new mechanics are evolutionary, not revolutionary. The motivation system is compelling, but players hoping for a fundamentally different kind of game will find familiar bones underneath the new skin. The narrative, while atmospheric and rich with lore, leans more toward environmental storytelling than the explicit moral gut-punches of the base campaign, which will disappoint anyone who came for the dialogue-driven dilemmas. For strategy players who care about systems depth, The Last Autumn earns its place. The spatial puzzle of the construction site, the balancing act between generator progress and worker welfare, and the way past decisions detonate into crises several hours later, these are the kinds of layered consequences that make management games worth replaying. New players absolutely should clear the base game first; jumping in here is asking to be destroyed by mechanics you do not yet understand. But for anyone who has already built a city in the frost and wants a harder, more focused test of the same skills, this expansion delivers a tightly designed scenario that respects your time without respecting your comfort.
