Dysmantle is the kind of post-apocalyptic survival RPG that lets you break almost everything in the world with a crowbar, and the Pets & Dungeons DLC slots into that loop with two fairly distinct additions. First, the pets: over 20 unique animal companions, ranging from loyal dogs to cats who are, per tradition, doing their own thing entirely. Second, a series of dungeons built around agility and puzzle-solving challenges, plus a new open-world island with its own mysterious backstory to uncover. For a DLC, it is keeping its scope honest, which I appreciate. The pet system is the more immediately charming piece. Each animal companion has its own personality reflected in how it behaves around you during exploration, and tracking down and bonding with different species gives completionists a genuine reason to comb the new island. It is not a deep creature-raising sim, but it adds a layer of warmth to a game that otherwise revolves around smashing fridges and dodging undead. If you have been playing Dysmantle solo and found the world a little cold and utilitarian, a scraggly dog trotting beside you does more emotional work than you might expect. The dungeons are where this DLC earns its RPG credentials, at least partially. They are structured as discrete challenge rooms that test reflexes and spatial reasoning rather than raw gear progression, which is a smart design choice for an expansion that cannot assume everyone enters at the same power level. That said, if you are coming to Dysmantle primarily for its open-world survival loop and narrative breadcrumbs, the dungeon content can feel like a detour rather than an extension of the main game's strengths. The new island does a better job of integrating with the core experience, offering environmental storytelling that fans of the base game's lore will want to dig into. A few caveats worth flagging. The review count on this DLC is modest, sitting at 73 percent positive across 55 reviews at the time of writing, which is fine but not a rousing endorsement. This is expansion content built for existing Dysmantle fans, full stop. If you bounced off the base game's combat or found the survival mechanics repetitive, nothing here is going to convert you. The co-op and split-screen support carries over, which is a genuine plus if you want to run dungeons with a friend. For players already invested in Dysmantle's world, Pets & Dungeons offers a comfortable return visit with a few new reasons to explore. The pets land better than expected, the island has enough environmental mystery to justify the trip, and the dungeons scratch a different itch than the open-world wandering. It is not the kind of DLC that redefines the base game or introduces a sweeping new system, but it extends the experience with enough personality that it does not feel like filler either.
