I went in cautious about a legacy sequel to a 2010s series, but Domination leans into the messy, unglamorous side of ruling. You're not the hero who saved the realm, you're managing the fallout. The turn-based combat feels deliberate rather than flashy, with enough unit variety and positioning depth to reward actual planning over button-mashing. The dark fantasy tone doesn't waver; this is a grimdark story about compromise and compromise's cost. The kingdom management layer is where it lands or stumbles for me. If you're into Crusader Kings-style political wrestling, the throne mechanics will click. If you want a linear story with clear good-vs-evil beats, you'll feel the grind. The writing is lean but thematic, nobody's here for comic relief. Fifteen hours in and I'm still unsure which of my allies will stab me, which is exactly the anxiety the game wants you to feel.
