A cozy puzzle-adventure that uses an AI utopia as its playground, D-topia is the rare short game that earns its length by asking you to care about the people living inside it.

I went in expecting a light distraction and came out with a handful of characters I genuinely didn't want to leave behind. D-topia, developed by Marumittu Games and published by Annapurna Interactive, released July 14, 2026, and it lands firmly in that Annapurna sweet spot: short, handcrafted, impossible to slot into a single genre without losing something. You play as Shiro, designated Facilitator No. 46, the newest human troubleshooter inside an AI-run residential community called D-topia. The Utopia Project, designed by the elusive Dr. Chloro, promises maximum happiness for maximum people, and your job is to keep that promise functioning. In practice that means two things: solving logic puzzles during your factory shift, and walking the city talking to residents. The puzzles are number-block affairs, moving tiles across grids, tracing lines to matching values, manipulating numbered pieces until totals align. None of them will rattle a puzzle-game veteran, but they are consistently satisfying and smartly tied to the fiction of maintaining a running facility. What adds real texture is the Block Side, a hidden, stripped-down layer of the same spaces accessible via zone terminals, where the AI's friendly robot workers drop their personas and the machinery underneath the utopian veneer becomes visible. Fixing glitches there means hacking security panels, manipulating weather systems, and uncovering secrets the surface world keeps polished over. The story is where D-topia punches harder than its cozy pastel exterior suggests. The characters you meet, from a young genius with bright orange hair to a robot in a red suit with a pixel-face display, carry surprisingly dark personal histories: neural implants causing compulsive behavior, residents frozen in time waiting for cures that arrived too late, people quietly incompatible with a system designed to optimize them. Your choices during these encounters shift the branching narrative and determine character fates, though critics have noted that the moral weight of those choices is somewhat softened. The game rarely makes you genuinely uncomfortable, and the climactic decisions land with less impact than the quieter moments that precede them. If you come for hard ethical dilemmas you'll find the edges a little rounded off. What it does exceptionally well is atmosphere. The lo-fi score, minimal sound design, and clean geometric art style make D-topia one of the more convincing cozy futures in recent memory, and it runs without complaint on Steam Deck at a locked 60fps. The main run is short, a few hours at most, but the branching structure gives reason to revisit if you bonded with the cast. This is not a game for players who want mechanical depth or choices that bite back hard. It is, however, a very good game for an evening when you want something that respects your time, treats its world seriously underneath the warm colors, and ends before it outstays its welcome.
