A micro-budget pixel runner about a stray cat chasing a legendary food stash across a hostile city, sweet-natured, short, and honest about what it is.

I went in with calibrated expectations, and CATRUN met most of them squarely. Lola Fisher's solo-developed runner dropped quietly in December 2024 with almost no coverage, a handful of Steam reviews, and a premise that sounds like it was sketched on a napkin: Philip the cat is hungry, his friend Bob the beaver knows where the good food is, and wolves want to stop them. That premise is not ironic. It plays it completely straight, and there is something quietly charming about that. The loop is a side-scrolling runner built around three practical ideas: sprint through diverse city environments, dodge wolf enemies and environmental traps, and use a fall acceleration mechanic to gain speed during descents. That last piece is the most interesting design choice. Rather than treating downward momentum as a neutral transition, the game rewards leaning into the fall - it is a small thing, but it gives the movement a slightly kinetic feel that a flat runner would not have. Power-up collectibles are scattered across each stage and reinforce the loop without complicating it. The Steam community tags the game as a precision platformer alongside its runner and casual labels, which hints that some obstacle sequences expect real timing, not just button-mashing. Where CATRUN struggles is scope and polish. This is a very small game from a solo developer, and the pixel art cityscape environments, while cheerful, are not the kind of handcrafted pixel work that makes you pause and look. The dystopian tag the community applied sits oddly alongside what is otherwise a gentle, friendship-forward story - it may reflect environmental visuals more than tone. With fewer than ten Steam reviews at the time of writing and no critic coverage at all, there is genuine uncertainty about how the level variety holds up across a full playthrough. For a game this short and this inexpensive, that uncertainty costs less than a cup of coffee to resolve personally. Who is this actually for? Kids and casual players who want a breezy story run with a cat protagonist will find exactly that. Hardcore precision platformer fans will likely find the concept endearing but the execution thin. The friendship between Philip and Bob is the genuine heart of the thing - two small creatures trying to do one ambitious thing together. I have seen worse premises executed with bigger budgets and less warmth. Kai, Scout Team
