The campaign and Zombies revival are genuinely the best this series has produced in years, but Mixed Steam reviews tell a real story: multiplayer has problems that keep dragging it back.

I went into Black Ops 6 expecting the usual annual CoD shuffle, and the campaign knocked me sideways. Set in the early 1990s Gulf War era, it leans into a paranoid spy-thriller structure that borrows some of the experimental energy from Black Ops 2 without quite matching its ambition. Mission variety is the headline win: stealth sequences, a surprisingly open semi-sandbox level with scattered objectives, a casino heist that swaps gunplay for tension-building, and set pieces that actually feel distinct from each other. The writing gets convoluted, but the voice acting holds it together, and returning characters like Frank Woods ground the wilder story beats. For a franchise that has treated its single-player as an afterthought for years, this is a genuinely substantial piece of work. The other clear win is the return of round-based Zombies. Fans who felt burned by Cold War's open-world experiment will find exactly what they wanted here: wave escalation, Pack-a-Punch weapon upgrades, Jugger-Nog, the Gobblegum consumable system pulled back from Black Ops 3, and co-op for up to four players. The mode layers in enough upgrade depth, with perk augments that can reshape your build, that solo or co-op sessions have real replay pull. Then there is multiplayer, which is where the 44% positive Steam score starts to make sense. The omni-movement system, which lets you sprint, slide, and dive in any direction, is the marquee innovation, and it genuinely changes the feel of gunfights when it clicks. The problem is that it clicks best in close-quarters objective modes like Domination or Hardpoint. In Team Deathmatch or Kill Confirmed it becomes a chaotic blur where spawn logic breaks down and the aggressive skill-based matchmaking means casual sessions rarely feel casual. Server stability and occasional crashes were documented complaints at launch. Cheater density in PC lobbies is a recurring community grievance. The 16 new maps are a mixed bag, with some layouts that funnel omni-movement beautifully and others that expose the system's messiness. Aggressive live-service monetization clutters the menus and runs counter to the clean gameplay underneath. For single-player fans or Zombies regulars, Black Ops 6 is an easy recommendation: the campaign alone is one of the strongest CoD has shipped this decade, and the round-based Zombies return is exactly the course correction that mode needed. For players who live in multiplayer, honest expectations matter here. The bones are good, the gunplay is satisfying, and the omni-movement ceiling is high when the game cooperates. But the PC experience at launch was rough, and the matchmaking philosophy will frustrate players who just want a relaxed lobby. Lapsed CoD players or those coming in primarily for campaign and co-op will get far more out of this than hardened multiplayer veterans hoping for something polished end-to-end. Alex, Scout Team

Best for campaign fans and Zombies regulars; multiplayer veterans on PC should weigh the Mixed reviews carefully before buying.
