Burnhouse Lane
Horror-adventure fans who can stomach genuinely disturbing material will find Burnhouse Lane one of the most atmospheric indie releases in recent memory. The game's rough edges are real, but its mood is almost unrivaled.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Best for story-driven horror fans who can handle heavy themes and will forgive sluggish controls in exchange for genuinely haunting atmosphere.

Acerca de Burnhouse Lane
I went into Burnhouse Lane expecting another moody point-and-click with a horror coat of paint. What I got instead was something that sat with me for days, not because of cheap jump scares, but because the opening ten minutes alone puts most horror games to shame in terms of sheer emotional weight. You play as Angie Weathers, a terminally ill nurse who strikes a supernatural bargain to complete five impossible tasks in exchange for her life, and the game never lets you forget what is actually at stake. The genre mix here is genuinely ambitious for an indie title. At its core this is a side-scrolling point-and-click adventure in the classic mold, with key-hunting, inventory puzzles, and branching dialogue choices that shift story outcomes. But layered on top are stealth sequences, light platforming, and sparse-ammo shooting mechanics that borrow the tense, every-shot-counts pressure of old-school survival horror. There is even a sequence where you control a cat to access areas Angie cannot reach. None of these modes are deep on their own, but together they keep the roughly ten-hour runtime from going stale. The save system asks you to find and use an ashtray to smoke a cigarette, which is a neat bit of world-building but can punish inattentive players who skip saves and then have to replay sluggish sections. Where Burnhouse Lane earns its cult reputation is atmosphere. The visual style pairs hand-drawn characters against backgrounds that look almost collaged or photoshopped, and the effect is genuinely unsettling rather than just stylistically quirky. A post-rock, electronic, and ambient soundtrack shifts tone across scenes with real skill, and the full English voice cast adds warmth to characters who could easily have felt like horror-game props. The developer Harvester Games has been doing this psychedelic horror aesthetic since The Cat Lady in 2012, and that lineage shows in the confidence of the art direction. The criticisms are fair though. Chapter-to-chapter flow is uneven, with some chapters feeling like standalone horror vignettes that only loosely connect back to Angie's arc. Movement and inventory management feel heavy and slow, and in moments designed to feel urgent that sluggishness actively works against the tension the game is trying to build. The platforming sections in particular are imprecise in a way that feels unfinished rather than intentionally difficult. If you are here for responsive gameplay, you will bounce off this fast. Burnhouse Lane is not for everyone, and it does not try to be. It carries hard content warnings covering suicide, abuse, gore, and strong language, and it means all of them. But if you are the kind of player who wants a story-driven horror adventure that prioritizes mood, character, and unsettling imagery over action, and you can accept that the controls are a tool for storytelling rather than a satisfying system in their own right, then this is one of the most memorable indie horror experiences available on PC right now. Steam players have rated it very positively in large numbers, which lines up with what the game does well.
