I went in expecting a chill casual sim and found myself frantically repositioning gun emplacements at wave 15. Bulwark Evolution is part tower defence, part resource management: you build and upgrade defensive structures, manage supply chains, and watch your little fortress either hold or crumble. The early hours are genuinely relaxing, planning optimal turret placement scratches the same itch as a tycoon game. The problem kicks in later: the difficulty curve shifts from "solve this puzzle" to "react faster", and the UI doesn't always keep pace with the chaos. You'll find yourself rewinding turns or restarting entire runs because a unit pathed wrong or a menu didn't respond immediately. It's not broken, just uneven. The Metacritic score of 69 reflects that split opinion: solid foundation, shaky execution at scale. If you're after a 5-10 hour strategic diversion rather than a 50-hour deep dive, this delivers. Expect to enjoy 60% of it and be frustrated by the other 40%.
