I approached this with cautious optimism. Battles of the Ancient World is exactly what its title promises: a scenario-driven tactical simulator of historical engagements across millennia of conflict. If you're the type who reads military history books and thinks "I wish this were interactive," the premise hooks you immediately. Each scenario locks you into recreating or reinterpreting actual battles, which means authenticity matters to the developers. The catch is that this is clearly a passion project with production values to match. Expect minimal UI polish, sparse documentation, and an interface that assumes you already know what you're doing. There's no hand-holding or tutorial sugar. If you're comfortable with wargaming conventions and patient with rough edges, you'll find tactical depth worth mining. If you need modern QoL or cinematic presentation, keep walking.
