If the bloated RPG era of Assassin's Creed burned you out, Mirage is the course correction worth checking: stripped-down stealth, tight parkour, and a ninth-century Baghdad that does more world-building than most of the cast.

I went into Mirage braced for another 80-hour checklist disguised as an open world, and what I found was something noticeably smaller and more deliberate. Ubisoft Bordeaux made a conscious decision to pull back from the sprawling RPG scaffolding of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, trading level-gated loot and dialogue wheels for a denser, more focused city and a renewed emphasis on stealth. Whether that sounds like relief or a downgrade tells you almost everything about whether this game is for you. The core loop is built around investigation and assassination. You track members of the Order of the Ancients through interlocking Black Box missions, gathering intel before closing in for the kill. The Notoriety system returns with real teeth: get sloppy and you'll find archers targeting you on sight, and eventually the Shakiriyya, elite hunters, sent after you. That pressure makes you actually think about your approach rather than cutting through guards like they're cardboard. The Assassin Focus ability, which lets you chain up to five simultaneous takedowns, is the one flashy release valve the game gives you, and it lands well. Combat, though, is deliberately weak. Parries and counters are there, but fighting openly feels clunky and punishing by design. The message is clear: stay hidden. Baghdad itself is the game's strongest asset. The rooftops, pulleys, balconies, and market alleys function as a genuine parkour playground, and the historical texture of ninth-century Baghdad during its golden age is richer than anything in the recent RPG entries. The city teaches you things. Parkour routing, on the other hand, can be inconsistent. Basim occasionally misreads a ledge, and the ANVIL engine shows its age in crowd density and some NPC behavior that belongs in a previous console generation. The story is the shakier half of the deal. Basim's arc from street thief to Hidden One works on its own terms up to a point, but the supporting cast is thin and the narrative leans on Valhalla context to land its bigger moments. If you skipped Valhalla, chunks of the payoff will feel hollow. The whole thing wraps in roughly 15 to 20 hours for the main thread, which is either refreshing discipline or a mild disappointment depending on how much you paid. There are also cosmetic microtransactions present, which is worth knowing upfront even if they don't affect core play. Mirage is not a reinvention. It is a careful, sometimes rough-edged reminder of what the early games did well, delivered in a genuinely interesting historical setting with a city that earns its place as the actual star. If you want a patient stealth-action game with a sense of place and no 200-hour grind attached, it delivers that with enough craft to justify the time. If you need a strong story or memorable characters to stay engaged, it may leave you cold. Alex, Scout Team

Veredicto de GamerScout

Worth it for fans who miss the stealth-first formula, but thin characters and a short runtime make it a conditional recommendation.
