I'll be honest: Ascent Spirit is not a strategy game, which means I'm already outside my usual lane. But as someone who respects mechanical depth and player agency, I have to flag this one. You're climbing a mountain in VR with two hand-controlled ice axes, managing stamina, grip, and footing. There's no jumping, no assisted climbing, no difficulty slider. Either you commit to the physical skill required or you bounce off it immediately. The appeal is pure: authentic alpine climbing translated into motion controls, time pressure from a ticking hot air balloon timer, and the meditative rhythm of methodical ascent. It's brutally honest design. If immersive VR sims and climbing challenges interest you, this delivers exactly what it promises with zero compromise. If you expect accessibility or traditional game loops, walk past. Not my specialty, but undeniably focused.
