I went in expecting a straightforward adventure game and got a weird blend of mythological drama and comedic charm instead. Ankh 3 follows Assil as he tries to stop the god Seth from taking over Egypt, mostly by talking to people, solving inventory puzzles, and navigating dialogue trees. If you've played adventure games from the 2000s, you know the formula: collect items, use them in weird combinations, click everything twice. The writing leans into humor that doesn't always land, but there's a genuine goofy affection for its B-movie premise. The game isn't broken, just niche. Point-and-click adventures were already dying by 2009, and this one knows it's operating in a shrinking pool. It's for people who specifically want old-school Sierra/LucasArts vibes without the modern indie reboot polish. If that's you and you're patient with clunky puzzle logic and voice acting that ranges from earnest to cringe, you might squeeze a weekend out of it. Everyone else should look at what Wadjet Eye Games was doing around the same time instead.
