Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator Supporter Edition

My first instinct with any new sim from Aesir Interactive is to check whether they fixed the AI traffic issues that plagued Police Simulator: Patrol Officers at launch. Ambulance Life inherits some of those growing pains - pedestrians clip through scenery, patient character models occasionally misbehave, and cars in traffic do whatever they want - but the core mechanical loop is more interesting than the bugs might suggest. You are based in Pelican City, a fictional West Coast US setting split across three districts that unlock as you level up your paramedic career. Each shift starts with a dispatch call, sends you into traffic with sirens active, and drops you at a scene where you need to quickly read the situation. The complaint variety is genuinely broad: 36 different incident types ranging from minor lacerations to third-degree burns from an exploding petrol station, plus large-scale catastrophe events per district that throw multiple casualties at you simultaneously and force real triage prioritisation. That is the part of the game that works. When you are cross-referencing symptoms on your in-game tablet, selecting from 17 medical instruments, and deciding whether your partner paramedic should start CPR or adjust the patient's temperature during transport, the pressure is real and the feedback loop is satisfying. The part that does not work as cleanly is how the game resolves that pressure: through minigames. Starting an IV? Sliding bar. Wrapping a wound? Another timed prompt. Reviewers across the board flagged this as the biggest immersion killer, and they are right. For a simulator audience that wants to feel the procedure, being handed a rhythm-game abstraction for every clinical action cheapens the experience. The driving, meanwhile, is functional but slow-feeling - do not load this up expecting the urgency of an action game. The city traffic behaves unpredictably enough to be frustrating rather than thrillingly realistic. Where the game earns its place is in the two-mode structure. Classic Mode holds your hand through early shifts with on-screen prompts, making it a reasonable entry point for players who have never touched a medical sim before. Simulation Mode strips those prompts and demands you internalise the manual - that is the version worth caring about if you have the patience. The XP and grading system (shift performance earns experience, which unlocks equipment and new district access) gives the progression a satisfying rhythm even when individual calls feel repetitive. The Supporter Edition adds cosmetic and content extras on top of the base game, so factor that in when weighing the value against the standard version. This is a niche product with a niche audience. If you finished every shift in Police Simulator and want the same structured emergency-service loop applied to EMS, the mechanical foundation is here. If you need a polished, bug-free experience on day one, the rough edges will irritate you before you unlock the second district. Approach it as a work-in-progress sim with genuine ambition rather than a finished product, and it holds up considerably better.
