I picked this up to see where survival horror actually started, and yeah, these games feel ancient. You're moving through pre-rendered backgrounds with tank controls and fixed camera angles, solving inventory puzzles while monsters lurk in loading screens. The pacing is glacial by modern standards, and the voice acting is B-movie all the way. That said, there's something oddly compelling about experiencing the DNA of every Resident Evil and Silent Hill that followed. The atmosphere holds up better than you'd expect, and if you've got patience for deliberate puzzle-solving and resource scarcity without the jump scares, this trilogy is pure archaeological gaming. Not for everyone, but horror historians shouldn't skip it.
