A one-person wave-survival shooter with a sci-fi premise bigger than its execution. Approach it as a micro-experiment, not a polished product.

I want to root for 4004-022. Every instinct I have as someone who covers the forgotten corners of Steam pulls me toward the solo-dev passion project, the rough diamond hiding behind a cryptic title and a thumbnail nobody clicked. But honesty is also part of this job, and 4004-022 sits at a complicated intersection of ambition and undercooked delivery. The concept is genuinely evocative: humanity has already lost Earth, fled to a refugee planet in deep space, and now that planet is under siege too. There is a kernel of dread in that setup that a more developed game could have done real things with. What you actually get is a 2D top-down shoot-em-up where you pilot a spaceship through escalating alien waves, each day harder than the last. Between runs you spend earned GP on spaceship upgrades and equipment purchased from friendly alien traders, which is a small but welcome wrinkle. The loop is simple: survive, earn, upgrade, repeat. Achievements are tied to survival milestones, reaching day 10, day 20, day 35, day 50, and a separate impossible-mode five-day challenge, which gives the experience some skeletal structure for players who want a target to chase. The problems are real. Steam players have rated it mostly negative, and the criticism is not unfair. The visual and mechanical presentation feel unfinished in ways that go beyond charming roughness. The enemy variety is thin, the upgrades do not create the kind of meaningful decisions that make wave-survival games compulsive, and the pacing flattens quickly once the initial difficulty curve levels out. The game runs on very modest hardware (an Intel Celeron and a mid-2000s Radeon will do it), which tells you something about the graphical scope. None of this is a moral failure. Solo development is hard. Aaron D. shipped something and listed it. That counts. But it counts differently than delivering a satisfying play session. Where 4004-022 might find its audience is among achievement collectors who want a fast, low-friction completion, or among players who find something meditative in the simplest possible wave-survival rhythm. The impossible-mode achievement adds a genuine spike of difficulty for anyone who wants to test the ceiling. For everyone else, especially players who come in expecting the premise to translate into atmosphere, sound design, or narrative texture, the gap between the idea and the game will sting. The seed of something stranger and more affecting is buried in that setup. It just was not excavated here. Kai, Scout Team
