About Total War: ROME REMASTERED
I approached ROME REMASTERED expecting Creative Assembly to modernize the AI and balance pass. They didn't. This is the original game's decision tree, unit behaviour, and campaign mechanics wrapped in 4K textures and cleaned-up UI. That matters: if you bounced off ROME in 2001 because the AI was predictable or unit pathing felt clunky, those complaints still exist. But if you remember fondly how Rome let you manage five or six provinces at once without spreadsheet hell, or how Diplomacy worked as a pressure valve instead of a binary gate, that core design holds up. The remaster respects what made it distinct from Medieval Total War and the later Shogun games. Multiplayer is functional if you find opponents. Mod support exists but the audience is thin. Worth buying only if you played the original and want to dust it off without squinting at 1024x768 menus, or if you're a Total War historian who needs to understand the franchise's DNA unfiltered. Everyone else should start with Empire or Shogun 2.
