I spent a couple hours with Sonny The Mad Man expecting mobile-tier jank, but what I found was a focused arcade experience that knows exactly what it wants to be. The core loop is tight: shoot, dodge, upgrade between waves, repeat. RPG progression elements give your runs shape, letting you stack bonuses and experiment with different loadout combinations across attempts. It's roguelike-adjacent without the permadeath fatalism. The problem is scope. This is a solo developer's passion project, which means production values are deliberately minimal and content depth doesn't pretend to compete with $30 indie titles. You're getting a few hours of engagement, maybe six to eight on a second playthrough if you chase harder difficulties. No narrative flourishes, no cinematic framing, just honest arcade fundamentals.
