Combat this kinetic deserves a longer campaign to live in. If you want a five-hour shot of wall-running, grappling-hook chaos, and brutal Gore Kills, Lo Wang delivers, but manage expectations going in.

I finished Shadow Warrior 3 Definitive Edition in a single Saturday sitting and spent the rest of the afternoon staring at the ceiling, not quite satisfied. That is not entirely a criticism. Flying Wild Hog built something with genuinely infectious momentum here, a first-person shooter that fuses wall-running, a grappling hook, Doom-adjacent resource management, and katana slashes into one hyperkinetic loop that feels great to pilot in the moment. The problem is that the moment lasts about five hours and then it is over. The combat is the unambiguous reason to be here. The Gore Kill system is the mechanical standout: finish off elite demons with an execution and Lo Wang temporarily inherits their weapon, whether that means a freeze-grenade ripped from an ice demon's eyeball or a burst of crowd-clearing energy. Pair that with explosive barrels that cycle through fire, ice, and electricity effects, arena trap triggers, and a grappling hook that snaps Lo Wang into melee range for free kills, and the combat sandbox is genuinely clever. Guns are upgradeable too: the twin SMGs called Sidekicks can be buffed with lightning, the grenade launcher gets a wider blast radius, and challenge kills scattered through each level reward upgrade orbs without forcing you to explore every corner. It is a well-tuned little engine that simply never gets enough time to breathe. The Definitive Edition adds Survival Mode across three horde arenas, New Game Plus, Chapter Select, Hardcore Difficulty, and Hero Mode, a modifier that caps your lives and forces you to earn more through Finishers. These additions genuinely extend the value, especially Survival Mode, which strips away the story and lets the combat loop run uninterrupted. That is arguably where the game is most honest about what it is: a movement-shooter built for short, intense bursts rather than a sprawling action adventure. The co-op that made Shadow Warrior 2 so popular is still absent, which remains a sore point for series veterans. Where the game stumbles is everywhere outside the combat. The story is thin even by genre standards, essentially one long setup for a dragon boss fight. Lo Wang's humour, which worked well in earlier entries, lands maybe a third of the time here, with the rest sliding into repetitive quips that reviewers and players alike flagged as forced. The weapon roster also feels tight at seven guns, not enough variety to fill out a full upgrade tree before the credits roll. Shadow Warrior 2's loot-driven depth is completely gone, replaced by a streamlined linear structure that some players will accept as focused design and others will read as a step backward. Who should pick this up? If you want something in the Doom 2016 family, built around movement and execution, and you are not precious about narrative or runtime, Shadow Warrior 3 Definitive Edition scratches that itch at a pace very few games match. Series fans coming from the second game expecting similar scope will be disappointed. New players with no franchise attachment, willing to treat this as a compact arcade action experience with extra replay modes bolted on, will find more to enjoy. The mixed Steam reception is honest: this is a well-built game doing a narrow thing, and how much that matters depends entirely on what you came here for. Alex, Scout Team

Best for Doom-adjacent FPS fans who want a tight, explosive five-hour rush and can live without campaign depth or co-op.
