GamerScout Verdict
Best for JRPG fans craving narrative risk-taking and willing to forgive some rough edges for a genuinely different combat system.

About MONARK
Monark throws the party-based JRPG playbook out the window and replaces it with an Ego system: you craft psychological alter-egos as combat units, leveling them via story choices that affect your mental state. It's a genuinely fresh idea, and when the writing leans into the psychological horror of Shin Mikado Academy's madness-infected setting, the pacing and character arcs work. The problem is inconsistency. Some story beats drag, the difficulty spikes feel arbitrary, and grinding Ego affinity for better units tests patience more than it should. If you're tired of standard JRPG formulas and have tolerance for rough pacing, the narrative payoff and build variety keep things interesting past the halfway point.
