Master of Magic: Rise of the Soultrapped
A fusion RPG that pairs spell-slinging with survival mechanics, but struggles to justify why magic and tech need to coexist.
GamerScout Verdict
For simulation enthusiasts willing to parse obtuse menus to find magic-tech synergies, not casual strategy players.

About Master of Magic: Rise of the Soultrapped
I approached Master of Magic: Rise of the Soultrapped expecting either a throwback to the original Master of Magic series or a fresh take on wizard-led conquest. What I found was something caught between both: an indie RPG-strategy hybrid where you're building spell loadouts and managing resource chains in a world where magitech is the core lens. The mechanics lean hard into simulation, expect spreadsheet-adjacent decision-making around spell selection, character builds, and tech trees that gate your magical toolkit. The problem is execution. The tutorial doesn't scaffold new players into why these systems matter together, and the UI makes cross-referencing spell interactions tedious. If you're the type who enjoys hunting for synergies between unrelated systems and doesn't mind friction in the name of depth, there's something here. But this is a niche game hiding in an even more niche corner, and it knows it. Better as a weekend puzzle for hardcore simulation fans than a gateway strategy title.
