About Farming Simulator 15 - Official Expansion (GOLD)
I'll be honest with you: as a sim enthusiast I have spent way too long weighing the cost-per-acre value of DLC expansions, and this one lands in the "worth it if you're still active" column with one major asterisk. The Gold expansion for Farming Simulator 15 does exactly one big thing well: it adds a brand new Eastern European map alongside the existing Scandinavian and American environments, giving series veterans a genuinely different visual palette and field layout to route their crop cycles around. The terrain design here leans into flatter, wider stretches of farmland that suit large-equipment runs, so if you've been optimising your harvesting passes on the base maps, the new acreage will force you to rethink your workflow in useful ways. On the hardware side, the expansion drops 20 new machines into your garage roster from manufacturers including Rostselmash, Zetor, Tatra, Kverneland, and Farmtech, pushing the total equipment count in the game past 160 tools and vehicles. That is a meaningful number for a sim where machine selection actually affects field efficiency. The Zetor tractors in particular occupy a mid-tier horsepower bracket that was slightly underrepresented in the base game, and the Rostselmash combine options give Russian-market agriculture a rare moment in the spotlight. One catch: the new vehicles unlock through the in-game shop, so you need the farm funds to buy them. Plan your early-game economy around that before you start fantasising about a full Rostselmash fleet. Where the expansion does not move the needle is on the game's deeper systems. The base game was already criticised for a shallow business simulation layer and livestock management that lacks the friction you would want from a serious farm economy. The Gold content does not fix any of that. The new map is a playground, not a systems overhaul. Players who bounced off FS15 because it felt too passive will not be converted by a fresh environment and new iron. The tutorial situation also remains unchanged: the game drops you with a bank loan and minimal guidance, which is fine for returning players but can feel abrupt for anyone coming in cold. What does hold up surprisingly well in 2024 is the multiplayer and modding side of things. The game supports up to 16 players working a farm simultaneously, and the moddable architecture means the community has continued to layer in content well past the official support window. The Gold expansion's new map has attracted its share of community modifications, which extends its practical lifespan considerably beyond what Giants shipped. For a sim built on cooperative play and a strong mod ecosystem, that community longevity matters more than any single DLC feature list. Bottom line: if you own FS15, still play it, and want a third map with a different visual character plus a solid roster of Eastern European machinery, the Gold expansion delivers on those two promises without overselling them. If you are on the fence about FS15 altogether, there are newer entries in the series that have built on this foundation significantly. Diego, Scout Team
