For combo hunters willing to overlook mid-2000s production values in exchange for combat depth.

About Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition
I went in expecting a straight port of DMC4, but the Special Edition's split protagonist structure is genuinely clever. You play Nero for the first half, then Dante takes over and reruns the same levels with wildly different move sets. Nero's got grab-centric mechanics and his Devil Bringer arm; Dante has swordplay, gunplay, and style-switching that demands real execution. The level design holds up well enough across both perspectives, and the combat depth rewards players willing to learn combos. What's harder to overlook: this is a 2008 game under the hood, and it shows in the camera, some environmental jank, and repetitive encounters. If you're hunting for tight, stylish action where execution matters more than dodging tells, this scratches that itch. But don't expect modern quality-of-life polish or the narrative finesse of later entries in the series.
