Sledgehammer leaned hard on nostalgia by rebuilding all 16 maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 (2009), and veterans who remember the geometry of Terminal and Rust by heart do get a genuine leg up. Movement received a noticeable upgrade too, with improved diving, sliding, and mid-range aiming adding real versatility to engagements. That said, time-to-kill is a persistent complaint from the community. Mag-dumping into someone and watching them stroll away is a feeling that surfaces repeatedly in player feedback, and it does blunt the satisfaction loop that makes a fast-paced shooter rewarding to grind. The campaign is, by nearly universal consensus, a weak point. It runs somewhere between three and six hours depending on difficulty, leans on open combat sandbox missions that feel hollow rather than liberated, and recycles Warzone's Verdansk map for several of its levels. If you play CoD for the single-player, this is not where you want to spend your money. The MWZ (Modern Warfare Zombies) mode takes a more open-world extraction approach, with tiered threat zones escalating from Tier 1 through Tier 3, but it uses permadeath rules that punish disconnects and schedule-constrained players equally hard. If you are already in MW3's multiplayer regularly, paying for a bundle or pushing through a battle pass tier with 2400 points is a straightforward transaction. The cosmetic pipeline in this game is active and the operator skins are genuinely detailed. If you are on the fence about MW3 as a platform altogether, the 44% positive Steam review score and a critic landscape that largely called it rushed and overpriced for what it delivered should factor into your decision before you load up your wallet. The netcode is functional, cross-platform multiplayer is supported, and there is a real player base keeping lobbies populated. But you are buying currency for a game that the broader community has significant reservations about.
