Compare Assassin's Creed: Origins prices across trusted key stores and find the best deal. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Published by Ubisoft. Released on 10/26/2017. Available on PC, Xbox. Genres: Action, Adventure, RPG.

Ancient Egypt's political intrigue meets combat overhaul in a prequel that ditches the franchise's stealth-first DNA for RPG mechanics and leveling grinds.

Origins marks the Assassin's Creed franchise's hard pivot toward RPG systems, and it's a genuine gamble that mostly pays off. You're Bayek, a Medjay (think: royal protector) hunting the conspirators who destroyed his family, set against gorgeously rendered Alexandria and the Nile Delta. The narrative has real meat to it, this isn't a fetch-quest simulator masquerading as a story. Combat now uses stats and builds; light-bow stealth won't carry you through a level-70 fortress, which is either engaging or frustrating depending on whether you want your assassination games to crunch numbers. The problem: there's padding. Side quests range from excellently written to completely forgettable, and the map is packed with collectibles that don't justify their real estate. Stealth is viable but no longer the obvious power fantasy, the game wants you experimenting with heavy weapons, predator bows, and ability trees. If you're burned out on Ubisoft's open-world template but curious how an Assassin's Creed game plays as a light RPG, Origins is worth the risk. Just accept you'll spend 40+ hours and that not all of them are peak content. Monika, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Best for open-world fans willing to embrace RPG grinding in exchange for a character-focused ancient Egypt adventure.
