Aquanox Deep Descent Collector's Edition

I went in expecting Aquanox's signature jet-ski-in-space vibe, but Deep Descent pivots hard into slow-burn strategy. You pilot submarines across procedural underwater terrain, manage crew and fuel, negotiate with factions, and pick fights when the math says you'll win. The combat itself is methodical: targeting underwater, managing weapon heat, watching ammo counts matter. It's less dogfighting arcade and more Cold War submarine thriller, which is a legitimate design choice, just not what the Aquanox name promised. The Collector's Edition doesn't add much that justifies the name, but the core game works if you're patient with its pacing. Metacritic's 67 suggests competent execution of a narrow vision: solid naval sim mechanics, forgettable story, serviceable graphics for 2010. Multiplayer exists but feels tacked on. Best for players who loved old Silent Hunter games and don't mind abstracted underwater environments over realistic cockpits.
