Among The Dead

I went in expecting a lightweight tactics game, and that's basically what Among the Dead delivers: top-down turn-based combat against shuffling hordes, resource management on a per-mission basis, and decision-making that matters more than your actual stats. The skeleton is solid. Enemy placement forces you to think two or three moves ahead, and positioning your squad matters. Healing, ammo, and AP economy create real friction instead of letting you brute-force everything. The catch is execution. UI feedback is minimal, pacing feels sluggish in stretches, and there's no tutorial to speak of, which means newcomers will waste turns figuring out what buttons do what. The art style is functional but forgettable. For a free title from a solo dev, it's honest work, you're getting playable turn-based tactics without the Paradox price tag or 200-hour commitment.
