GamerScout Verdict
Worth it for FMV fans and moral-thriller enthusiasts; too linear and mechanic-light for players expecting genuine RPG depth.

About 天平游戏1:抉择
I went in expecting a gimmicky live-action curiosity and came out unsettled in the best possible way. Inner Scales 1: Choice (天平游戏1:抉择) is a first-person FMV thriller from Chinese studio MYSTERY CROWN, released July 25, 2026, and its setup is as bleak as they come. You play Zhang Cheng, a probationary office worker who takes a four-day paid gig at a remote facility, no phone allowed, good money. What he walks into is a fortified suburban building where eight women are held in cells, monitored by cameras, with electrified perimeter walls and bodies buried in the corners. The game is not shy about what it is. Structurally, this sits much closer to interactive cinema than to anything with conventional RPG mechanics. Each of the four in-game days has you delivering meals to the captives and choosing how to interact with them, with roughly one or two dialogue choices per woman per day. That is a narrow decision funnel by any standard, and critics who have spent time with it are right to flag it: the branching is shallow, the template repeats, and players who come in hoping for a Disco Elysium-style web of consequences will find the architecture more rigid than the marketing implies. Survival here is less about systems and more about reading the room, understanding which woman trusts you, which one is lying, and what each of your small daily choices accumulates into by the final day. Where the game genuinely earns its Very Positive Steam rating is in its cast. The eight actresses bring a level of commitment that is rare in the FMV genre. The performances carry emotional weight that the sparse script alone could not. Each character has her own personality, her own arc across the four days, and the good endings for each of them are worth seeing individually, even if reaching all of them means cycling back through familiar footage. The 4K production quality is noticeable, and the confined, surveillance-heavy environment is used effectively to build tension without needing a single jump scare. Total runtime lands around four hours for a first playthrough, with another two or so to exhaust alternate dialogue and endings. That is a honest length for what it is. The honest criticism is this: the developer themselves, in post-launch community notes, acknowledged that the game has almost no dedicated gameplay mechanics and that the narrative scope was constrained by budget and shooting time. That transparency is refreshing, but it also means you should calibrate expectations accordingly. This is not a game that will challenge your build, test your resource management, or reward a theory-crafting second read. It is a mood piece with moral weight, closer to a guided experience than a true RPG, despite the genre tags. Players who want to feel the specific discomfort of complicity in an ugly situation, and who appreciate watching skilled actors work within tight constraints, will get more from it than genre completionists hunting for systemic depth.
