VR sword-combat crawler where you and up to three friends hack through 101 floors to reach a giant boss. Physical swordplay is the whole pitch.

Swords of Gargantua is a VR action game built around one core fantasy: swinging real (well, room-scale real) swords through waves of enemies as you descend a dungeon called the Tesseract Abyss, floor by floor, until you reach the titanic Gargantua waiting at the bottom on Floor 101. It sits in the action-RPG column mostly by virtue of progression and loot rather than any deep character-building system, so if you arrive expecting branching builds or narrative weight, recalibrate now. This is about physical presence, weapon feel, and the rhythm of combat in VR. The swordplay itself is the game's strongest argument. Weapons have genuine weight simulation, parries require actual positioning, and connecting a clean block followed by a counter lands with satisfying physicality that flatscreen games simply cannot replicate. The weapon variety stretches across one-handed swords, two-handers, axes, and shields, and mixing loadouts for different enemy types gives the combat system more texture than the stripped-down premise suggests. Solo runs are functional, but the game clearly breathes better in online co-op with up to three other players, where coordinating positioning around larger enemies adds a layer of spatial tactics that single-player cannot manufacture. The problems are real and worth naming. Floor-by-floor progression leans heavily repetitive, and the content density does not keep pace with the climb. Enemy variety thins out well before Floor 101, and what should feel like an escalating descent starts to feel like a grind somewhere in the middle stretch. The RPG label is thin cover for what is essentially a wave-brawler with a vertical structure. Gear upgrades exist but lack the depth to sustain serious theorycrafting, and the writing, such as it is, offers little in the way of worldbuilding payoff. You fight a giant. That is the story. The mixed Steam reception (sitting around 60 percent positive) reflects an honest split: players who wanted a pure physical VR sword experience and found it, alongside players who expected more content longevity and hit a wall. For a VR title in its niche it does the fundamental thing competently, and the co-op sessions with a full group of four can generate genuine memorable moments. But it is not a game that rewards solo play past the first few hours, and it asks more patience than its content justifies for the full 101-floor commitment. If you have a VR setup, friends who also have VR setups, and you want something that prioritizes physical swordplay over narrative, Swords of Gargantua scratches a specific itch. Go in with correct expectations and the repetition is manageable. Go in wanting a proper RPG and you will bounce off hard. Monika, Scout Team
