Scrap Mechanic
Ten years in Early Access and Scrap Mechanic finally stuck the landing. If building physics-powered vehicles with friends while rogue Farmbots trash your farm sounds like your idea of a good Saturday, this one is ready.
Veredicto de GamerScout
Best for groups of 2-4 who want a physics building sandbox with actual survival stakes and a completed story to follow.

I have a rule: any sandbox that keeps players coming back through a decade of Early Access deserves a serious look the moment it goes 1.0. Scrap Mechanic hit that milestone on July 24, 2026, and the "Drilling Thunder" update it shipped with is not a symbolic version bump. It is a genuine second chapter that adds underground caves, abandoned mines, drill vehicle attachments, and a route all the way down to the planet core. That is a lot of new real estate to wreck contraptions in. The core loop is physics-based building wrapped inside a survival campaign. You crash-land on an agricultural planet, your ship is busted, and the entire robot workforce has gone haywire. From that starting point you scavenge parts, grow crops to stay fed, build increasingly ridiculous vehicles, and try not to get steamrolled by Farmbot raids at night. Survival mode now has a complete story arc across two chapters, which gives the whole grind a proper sense of direction that the Early Access version never quite had. Creative mode sits alongside it for anyone who just wants unlimited parts and zero threat pressure. Challenge mode adds a puzzle dimension where you have fifty pre-built levels to solve using only the materials on hand. Three modes, three very different vibes. The co-op is the real draw. Up to four players can share a survival world, and the game genuinely shines when one person is welding a potato-cannon turret onto the roof of a truck while another is desperately farming crops and a third has somehow built a helicopter that barely works. The Spud Gun, the Sledgehammer, logic gates, bearings, pistons, engines, suspension systems, and over 400 building parts give you enough tools that every group ends up solving the same problems in completely different ways. Drilling Thunder also added the Baby Craftbot, UV Grow Bed, Sticky Wheels, and a Turret Seat, so the build vocabulary has grown again. The 1.0 engine improvements mean large automated factories and complex moving machines run noticeably smoother than they did a year ago, which matters when your friends are trying to build a base that doubles as a death trap. The rough edges are still present. Old survival saves from before 1.0 do not carry over cleanly, and returning players should expect to start fresh or roll back via Steam betas to retrieve their old world. The mod situation is similarly messy: mods that add custom parts or game modes will likely be broken until their authors push updates. The building system also has a learning curve that will frustrate anyone expecting a grab-and-go crafting game. Logic gates and automation are deep enough that newcomers can spend an hour just figuring out how to make wheels spin in the right direction. The game rewards patience and YouTube guides, but it absolutely does not hold your hand through the harder building concepts. For a game that spent ten years in development, the community goodwill is striking. Over 119,000 Steam reviews sit at 92% positive, which is a number that does not happen by accident. The Steam Workshop is stacked with player-made creations, from show-quality racing circuits to completely unhinged war machines, and that browseable content effectively doubles the life of the base game. If your group loves tinkering, breaking things, and rebuilding them worse until someone finally figures out the correct gear ratio, there are very few PC games that scratch that itch as well as this one does right now.
