New Yankee: Under the Genie's Thumb

I went in expecting a strategy game because Alawar slapped that label on the store page. What I got instead is a casual puzzle adventure where Sir John and Lady Mary zip through time to fulfill a genie's wishes via match-3 boards. The core loop is solid enough: clear tiles, hit objectives, unlock story beats. Progression feels deliberate without being punishing, and the time-travel framing gives each level a light narrative coat. The problem is transparency: your decision-making per puzzle is minimal. You match tiles or you don't, and the game either lets you move forward or asks for another attempt. There's no build variety, no resource management tension, no meaningful choice between competing strategies. If you're after a low-stakes, bite-sized adventure with no save-scumming or spreadsheet creep, this delivers. Casual players who just finished one match-3 game and want another will find enough content to justify the price. But anyone tagging this looking for strategy depth or complex systems will bounce hard. The achievement list and cloud-save support are nice quality-of-life touches for what amounts to a cozy puzzle runner with a genie skin.
